Aren't there terms of use for this site? (I looked but I can't find them.) Some little thing we had to click through to join, agreeing not to do things like shout FIRE in a crowded theater, post racial epithets etc.?
Can't a bunch of us deal with this problem? It is really ruining things here.

Frankly, I couldn't agree more; they (mods) are around, and of course, 99% of "us" would be fine if every morning they just zipped thru (it would take 10 mins or so), just deleting at will, and bingo.

Every once in a while we'd have to say "hey! you just deleted one of Tell's innocent war history lessons that no one reads! put it back or he'll be depressed! hurry!" but I think it would work very easily.

I asked, but no soap. One time, I even said I'd do it; but they aren't handing out that power...not yet.

Could we organize a mass email campaign to the moderators? Shouldn't be hard to do. Copy and paste, say, the most recent 20 posts from this individual into a document; 10 or more of us simply email it to the mods and just politely ask, Can something be done?

ringo, the best thing to do is to just ignore any post by offending parties, as the moderators here take pretty much a hands-off approach to moderating the forum.

I know that is the answer, but I am one of those who just can't leave well enough alone at times. If we would all self-moderate the "problem" would disappear. Sure, it will resurface at a later date, and with a different log in, but at least we would have a period of relative peace and harmony.

I know, but it's really pretty out of control at the moment. I really feel the extreme offensiveness, racial slures etc. is inciteful; maybe if the archive was afraid of being sued, they'd do something. This person spouts hate speech. They have every right to block his IP address(es).

Hey Ringo . Hope the T-Day trip went well . I know you are hot right now , and with cause I'm sure , but it's not worth it . Just by your post I know the spew above . It's like an OCD , 'round and 'round the same track they go . There are threads from '09 that are congruent . Maybe further back .
It comes and goes like a fever . The price we pay to be left alone in our little corner of IA.
I went totally bullshit on this issue at the end of September . It was equivalent to banging my head against the wall . ( Remember my little vacation ?)
To ignore any thread with certain handles leads to greater IA happiness . It's like a two year old banging on the kitchen pots for attention . Ignore ....
Now something to listen to ,

>Hey Ringo . Hope the T-Day trip went well .

Thanks Micah - actually it was pretty awful, but life goes on. A small matter in the course of things.

>It's like an OCD

I think maybe it's not *like* an OCD, it *is* an OCD.

>There are threads from '09 that are congruent .

Oh. Okay. I'll just do my best to forget this.

>It's like a two year old banging on the kitchen pots for attention . Ignore ....

Except that a 2 year old isn't usually shouting racial slurs. Banging of pots I don't really object to :)

Thanks will do :)

I am enjoying a particularly blazing "Tore Up" over here:
http://panicstream.net/streams/jerry_garcia_band/1978-03-10/player.html

I can't get away from those 3 shows (3-10, 3-18, 3-19), I just keep going through them like a revolving door.

>edit - How was Dylan ?

Oh geez, you don't want to know. We didn't go. Long story which I am trying to forget, with the aid of Jerry G. and a lot of Tylenol. I don't know what makes me think I have a right to go to rock concerts :)

Not being a moderator I can't be 100% sure, but I believe the individual in question has been "banned" several times. It seems the paths into the archive are not only multitudinous and meandering, but also fairly simple to navigate.

Not necessarily the same "this" but similar situations

and not just the ladies, many forumites have left, or gone into lurker mode, as a result of confrontational posting practices of a small group f , for lack of a better term-trolls

A husband suggested his wife should start washing her underwear in Slim Fast. She was less than amused. The next morning as the husband pulled his "tighty whiteys" out of the drawer in preparation for his morning shower, there was a cloud of dust. "Why did you put talcum powder in my underwear?"' he asked.

His wife replied, "Oh, it isn't talcum powder. it's Miracle Grow."

funny how my 2nd or 3rd post back from vacation is an aggravated reply to this bigot.

this certainly calls for a "hello, nice to be back, y'all"

this place is great but having to sort through the BS to get to the good stuff in times like these is quite time consuming and as you said, a deterrent.

Hey DP--right back at ya. Unfortunately, to the dismay of LiA and CLIFF, and other stalwarts, it means we're reduced to a stream of threads filled with juvenile one liners, and lame "inside jokes/facebook moments" between ol regulars, but there you have it...

What'll be? Bored to death by Tell and his friends, or Trolls? It's a tough job sitting here nursing my bum knee and bad back, but someone's got to fill these pgs with drivel. I am not a once retired, former PM fur nuthin.

Well, actually, it's for less than nothing.
